Remote Learning/COVID FAQ ** UPDATED 4/21 **

April 03, 2020

** April 21st Update **

Will there be Final Exams?

There will still be a final assessment at the end of the year. These may or may not be a traditional test as typical with a final exam. Your teacher will be communicating with you over the next couple weeks what the expectation will be for you specific class. This is nothing to stress out about, and I promise whatever the assessment is it will be more than appropriate given our current situation.

When is the last day of Remote Learning?
The final day of school, or last day of remote learning is May 28th.

When can I get my stuff out of my lockers?

The EARLIEST we would be getting items out of your lockers would be June 1st. If it is unsafe for everyone to be in the building for school it would also be unsafe for everyone to be in the building to clean out their lockers (or waiting outside the building to get in to clean out their lockers). Once we are given the okay it would be safe to do so, we will communicate the plan to have students come clean out their lockers.

What is going on with Behind The Wheel?

At this time we are not allowed to complete any Behind the Wheel hours. Once that ban is lifted we plan on getting started with getting as many students finished with hours as soon as possible.

During this time, there have been many questions being asked because we are in uncharted territory. Here are some of the questions we have answered most often. Remember, since this situation is ever-changing, some of these answers may change in the future, but they are currently answered to our best ability.

What happens with grades during remote learning? Are we required to do the work?
As of now, our district policy states there will be no grades collected on any assigned work during the Remote Learning period. These assignments are for the goal of keeping the students engaged in their education and curriculum current. Even though teachers will not be taking grades, they still will be assigning work and giving feedback on those assignments.

Can I raise my grade if I failed a class during the 3rd Quarter?
The Remote Learning Plan does allow a student the opportunity to raise a failing grade from the third quarter. Mr. Essex/Mrs. Bailey will be reaching out to these students and getting them in contact with their teachers for the purpose of making up 3rd quarter work in order to earn a passing grade for the 3rd Quarter.

Can I raise my grade in a class that I didn't fail?
At this time no new grades can be entered into the grade book for this purpose.

Is there going to be a Graduation?
The district has every intention of holding a Graduation Ceremony. We may have to postpone and/or make different arrangements from our traditional ceremony, but at this time those details are uncertain.

Is there going to be a Prom?
Similar to graduation, we still want to host a Prom this year - but we do not have a schedule or details to share at this time.

What is going to happen to 4th Quarter Driver's Education?
Mr. Carrigan will be setting up a schedule to start 4th Quarter Driver's Education on April 13th. You will be able to complete remotely from home. Just like if we were in the classroom, attendance and seat time minutes will be monitored to appease requirements. These classes may be meeting daily for longer than the normal 45 minute class periods to ensure enough seat minutes are being taught. Mr. Carrigan will be contacting everyone enrolled in 4th Quarter Driver's Education next week with details. If you are unable to complete Driver's Education remotely at this time you will be enrolled in Driver's Education next year.

What about Behind The Wheel?
All Behind the Wheel hours have been suspended until further notice.

Are we going to schedule our classes for next year?
We are currently planning to complete scheduling of next year's (2020-2021) classes in the same fashion we have in the past. Obviously the time frame of doing so is going to be pushed back, and may not be completed until the summer months.

As more questions come in or the landscape of Remote Learning changes the answers above could be added to and/or changed. I will update these answers - and possibly add more questions - as we progress. These changes will be noted so you can clearly tell this document has been updated.

If you have any questions, please email me at nessex@auburn.k12.il.us.
