Advisory and Final Exemptions for Class of 2019

June 16, 2016

Starting with Members of the Class of 2017,

The beginning of your final year at AHS starts soon, and I have some news to share that I think all of you will be very excited to hear. With the evolution of the state testing system the unknown that comes with it, it was very difficult to follow our traditional plan of accruing points to receive rewards like opting out of finals or not being in attendance for advisory. I still want to offer these opportunities to those of you with good attendance and grades.

Advisory for seniors will be optional this year as long as you meet the following minimum expectations:

  1. Have less than 7 periods of unexcused absences.
  2. No more than 1 Tardy to school.
  3. No more than 1 Tardy detention.
  4. Passing all of your classes.

If you meet – and continue to meet – these expectations your school day will end at 2:41 starting August 22nd. Once you have failed to meet any of the first three expectations, you will be assigned an advisory for the rest of the semester.

You may opt out of your final exams in any non-weighted class if you can meet the following expectations:

  1. Earning an A or B for a semester grade in the class.
  2. Not missing more than 3 days of school that semester (Excused or Unexcused).
  3. No more than 1 Tardy to school.

Most of you are probably now catching on to our efforts to improve attendance and arriving to school on time. There will still be discipline issued for failing to arrive on time, but the hope is by implementing the system outlined above that all of you will have the right motivation to be here and be on time every day for your final year here at Auburn High School.

Do Today Better,
Nathan Essex
