School Message - June 15, 2020

School Messenger

This message will be available on our school website.

This is Darren Root, Superintendent of the Auburn School District.

Schools in Illinois are still waiting for additional guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education as it relates to opening school this fall, providing services to our students, and what that might look like.  As of now, I am planning to fully open our doors in person as reflected on our approved school calendar; August 17 for teachers and August 19 for students.

There have been many rumors as to what might be COVID-19 related requirements come mid-August, such as facemasks or social distancing measures in the classroom.  As various organizations make public recommendations and as we move through transitioning back to normalcy, it is important to know that there is a big difference between what is recommended, what is realistically feasible and what is actually required.   Schools are, by design, social.

We are all anxious to know what to expect and how to prepare moving forward.  Once we receive guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education, I will communicate any information as I receive it.

I appreciate all of your efforts and cooperation during these challenges and am looking forward to being able to see all of our students once again.
